Monarch of the Glen past exam extract

Complete full response for HW. Remember to deal with each technical area separately, discuss in relation to representation and comment at end on whether the clip reinforces / challenges stereotypes. What ideological discourse is there in the clip?

continuity editing explained

Check out these Hollywood actors! Actually a very useful clip:

Another explanation of shots. Look at list on youtube page for breakdown of 11 continuity editing techniques:

Continuity is not just about conversations - but also action, plot development and movement. What is interesting is to consider how a sequence may have been done over various takes, or even days and continuity editing creates the illusion of continuous action, often compressing time invisibly:

This example shows how continuity can cover up stunts - the lead guy is clearly a parkour genius, but stunt men following are not and the edit covers up their landing on buildings... watch carefully:

Y12 Cover Task 27th Sept

Y12
Your homework and classwork for Tuesday is to carry out a detailed analysis. You should watch the 'Carnivale' clip below 4 times, take detailed notes on camera, sound and mise-en-scene and answer the question:

What techniques are used to create tension in the drama?

Look particularly at how good and evil are represented.

Use the writing frame from class to help structure your response. Your response can be typed, needs to be continous prose and you should discuss not only the techniques used, but their impact on an audience and their connotations (where applicable).

This should be printed out and left on my desk by the end of the lesson. I will be picking them up when I get back at 3.30pm from my trip.
